It’s been a long time since I last wrote here but after a year living with the new roof the scruffy clothes are to be dusted down and more adventures in roof replacement are about to begin.

This time the ‘gazebo’ and generator shed are getting a facelift. As some of you have noticed the beams were sagging thanks burrowing bees and bugs making their homes in the timbers. Although I like the rustic timbers I’m going to plumb for something a little more sturdy but keeping the feel.

Also in a nod to the mill’s history I’m installing a wind turbine plus I’m upgrading the solar system to be robust enough to handle the washing machine and a microwave without the need for the generator.

Over the last couple of years I’ve toyed with the idea of water recycling by storing and using ‘brown’ water for the gardens. This would mean digging up floors to reroute water from sinks, washing machine and the shower into a separate storage tank. If all goes to plan the pick axe will be wielded later in the year.
